A horizontal Murphy bed opens sideways instead of lowering from the top. This can suit rooms with low ceilings, windows, or other wall features that make it difficult to place a tall cabinet.

A vertical Queen configuration measures 90¼ inches high, 67 inches wide, and 16 inches deep, with a 90-inch projection.
The choice between orientations depends on available wall width, ceiling height, doors, windows, and open floor area. Measuring the room first gives us the information needed to build the right configuration.
A queen Murphy bed uses a standard Queen mattress. Our Murphy beds are designed around standard mattress sizes, and the mattress must be no more than 12 inches thick. We do not recommend adjustable, bed-in-a-box, or memory-foam mattresses because fit cannot be guaranteed.
There is also up to 12 inches of available space for the mattress and bedding. With an appropriate mattress thickness, sheets and a comforter or quilt can sometimes stay on the bed. Pillows are not recommended because they can fall when the bed is raised.
A Murphy queen bed can be combined with custom bookcases instead of leaving storage as a separate piece of furniture.
Common widths include 16, 18, 24, and 30 inches. Other dimensions can be considered during custom design.
Bookcases can include adjustable shelves, doors, drawers, file drawers, printer pullouts, drink trays, lighting, and charging stations.
Deeper storage can suit printers, monitors, sound systems, and larger items. File drawers also need deeper bookcase construction.
A charging station can include two 110V receptacles, child safety locks, a 10-amp rating, and USB 2.1 charging. It can be placed in a bookcase, headboard, desk, or tabletop area.
A horizontal Murphy bed with desk can create a lower sleeping profile while keeping a work area within the same furniture system.
The Stay-Level Desk remains level as the bed moves. Items up to 8½ inches high can remain on the desktop during movement. Custom designs can also include drawers, charging, monitors, bookcases, and printer storage.
One King project uses a 28-inch-deep desk, giving the user more work surface than the standard 22-inch desk referenced in that project.
Our desk options include Stay-Level, Inset, Add-on Fold-Up, and Fold-Down configurations. An Inset Desk can fold into the inner bed frame, while a Fold-Down Desk stores the work surface against the bed.
The desk choice also affects the mechanism. Stay-Level Desk models use the spring system. Inset and Fold-Down Desk configurations use the piston system.
A Queen wall bed configuration can be built with different face styles, woods, finishes, hardware, lighting, desks, storage, and entertainment features.
Available face styles throughout our designs include Templeton, Manhattan, Bella, Barn Door, Hudson Bay, Craftsman, New Yorker, and other custom options.
Crown molding also changes the final footprint. Standard crown adds 2½ inches to each side and the front. Large crown adds 3½ inches to each side and the front.
Existing base molding does not have to be removed. A standard 6-inch cutout can be made around it, with adjustments for taller molding.
A sideways queen Murphy bed can work well where ceiling height is limited, but there is enough wall width for the wider cabinet.
The spring horizontal Queen measures 86½ inches wide. That is much wider than the 67-inch spring vertical Queen, so the wall must provide enough usable width.
The open projection is also different. The horizontal design projects 70 inches, compared with 90 inches for the spring vertical Queen.
A sideways Murphy bed should be measured in both its closed and open positions. Nearby furniture, doors, windows, walkways, and desks all need clearance.
Bookcases, drawers, desks, crown molding, and other additions can also change the final footprint.
Queen Murphy beds can be designed to look like coordinated furniture rather than a basic bed cabinet.
A King New Yorker project, for example, uses custom-width full-height bookcases, scribe molding, LED bookcase lighting, a touch sensor, and a pull-out drink tray. The storage was sized around the customer’s available wall width.
This approach allows the bed, storage, lighting, and finish to work together.
A horizontal queen wall bed can serve a room that needs both sleeping and working functions. The same furniture can include a desk, bookcases, file storage, printer space, charging, and lighting.
A complete office arrangement can also include a monitor or TV. One custom project combines a Murphy bed with a 32-inch Samsung monitor, Stay-Level Desk, side cabinets, file drawers, charging, printer storage, and bookcase lighting.

After drawing approval, a 20% payment is required before production starts.
The process then continues through production, completion photos, final payment, and freight shipping.
After a $400 deposit, a detailed drawing packet is prepared. It includes a scale rendering, dimensions, and design details.
Customers can also request a drawing before ordering for a $100 fee. That includes the initial drawing and one revision. When an order follows, the fee is credited toward the Work Order.
