Shipping and Delivery for Your Custom Murphy Bed

We know shipping a custom Murphy bed can feel like a big step, especially with furniture this large. At WWBeds Custom Furniture, we carefully pack each order on a custom-built skid to help protect it during freight shipping. This page walks you through how your Murphy bed is shipped, what residential curbside delivery means, and what to do when your shipment arrives.  Our goal is to make sure your Murphy bed arrives safely and is ready for assembly.  Here is helpful information that will guide you through how things are shipped and what’s expected of you!

Please let us know before shipping if the freight company may have trouble delivering to your location. There may be additional freight fees if the carrier has difficulty delivering because of access issues that were not communicated before shipping.

Examples include:

  • Narrow roads
  • Gated communities
  • Steep driveways
  • Low tree limbs
  • Limited truck access
  • Long gravel drives
  • Apartment buildings
  • Downtown or restricted delivery areas
  • POA Special Regulations
  • Any location where a large truck may not be able to safely access the property

We take extra care when packing your Murphy bed for freight shipping.

Each shipment is packed on a custom-built skid. We build the skid wider and longer than the largest piece to help protect the furniture during transit.

Before shipping, each piece is:

  • Wrapped in protective foam
  • Shrink wrapped
  • Boxed using heavy triple-wall cardboard
  • Secured to a custom skid
  • Prepared for freight carrier pickup

Our goal is to make sure your Murphy bed arrives safely and is ready for assembly.  Here are some examples of how your shipment will arrive.

Your Murphy bed will be delivered by a freight company using a large truck. In most cases, this will be a tractor trailer or large delivery truck. If a large truck cannot get to your home, please let us know upfront to avoid any “limited access” fees.

The freight company will contact you to schedule a delivery date and time window once the shipment reaches your local terminal. However, we do suggest contacting them early to ensure you get your desired

This is a residential curbside delivery. The driver is not required to bring the furniture inside your home, garage, apartment, office, or building.

Please plan to have someone available to help you move the boxes from the curbside delivery area into your home.

Once your Murphy bed ships, we will send you a shipping email with your freight company, tracking number, estimated transit time, and delivery instructions. Transit times are estimates only. Weather, breakdowns, terminal delays, and other issues can affect the actual delivery date. Please do not schedule your help until you have spoken with the freight company and received your actual delivery date and time window.

It is very important that the freight company can reach you by phone once the shipment arrives at your local terminal.

Once your shipment reaches the destination terminal, the freight company will need to schedule the delivery with you. In most cases, the shipment must be delivered within 24 hours after arriving at the local terminal. If you request a delivery date outside of that window, storage fees may apply. These fees are charged by the freight company and will be passed directly to the customer. If you know ahead of time that you need a delayed delivery date, please let WWBeds know before your order starts production.

Please have help available when the delivery arrives. Even though the furniture is broken down into separate boxes, the pieces can still be heavy. The heaviest piece is usually the face of the Murphy bed. Your shipping email will include the estimated weight of the heaviest piece when available.

You will need:

  • At least one additional person available to help
  • Something to cut the straps (Phillips screwdriver or drill is preferred)
  • A place to set the boxes after unloading the skid

Freight companies typically allow a limited amount of time to unload the shipment. In many cases, this is about 20 minutes. Because the shipment is on a skid and liftgate service is ordered, unloading usually goes smoothly. You should not have to help the driver get your shipment from the truck onto the end of your driveway. If unloading goes over the carrier’s allowed time, detention fees may apply.

Before signing the delivery paperwork, inspect the skid and all boxes.

Look for:

  • Torn cardboard
  • Crushed corners
  • Forklift marks
  • Broken skid boards
  • Boxes off the skid
  • Loose straps
  • Water damage
  • Any sign that the shipment shifted during transit

If everything looks good, you may sign for the delivery.

If you see any damage, follow the damage steps below before signing and before letting the driver leave.

If any box or skid appears damaged, contact WWBeds immediately before signing the freight paperwork.

Take as many photos as possible.

Then contact us:

Email photos to: Info@wwbeds.com

Do not let the driver diagnose the damage or decide what should be written. The driver does not know the specific furniture pieces inside the boxes.

WWBeds will help direct you on what needs to be noted on the delivery paperwork before you sign.

The most important thing is that all visible damage is clearly noted on the delivery paperwork before the driver leaves.

Concealed damage means damage that is not visible until the boxes are opened.

Any concealed damage must be reported to WWBeds within 5 business days of delivery.

If damage is reported after 5 business days, it will need to be reviewed to determine whether it is covered under warranty.

Before delivery:

  • Watch for calls from the freight company
  • Schedule the delivery directly with the carrier
  • Do not schedule help until your delivery window is confirmed
  • Make sure a large truck can access your location
  • Have someone available to help move boxes inside

When the truck arrives:

  • Inspect the skid before signing
  • Count the boxes
  • Look for damaged cardboard or skid damage
  • Take photos if anything looks wrong
  • Call WWBeds before signing if damage is visible
  • Note all visible damage on the freight paperwork

After delivery:

  • Move boxes inside
  • Keep photos of the shipment
  • Open and inspect the boxes
  • Report any concealed damage within 5 business days
  • Dispose of packing materials
