A King bed needs more than a wider cabinet. The mattress itself measures 76 by 80 inches, so the bed, mechanism, and added furniture must all work together. An Office Murphy bed can include desks, bookcases, lights, drawers, and charging features, but each addition adds weight and space.
A standard spring vertical King measures 90¼ inches high, 83 inches wide, and 16 inches deep. It projects about 90 inches when open.
That size leaves less room for extra features. The total weight also matters. Most Murphy beds have an 800-pound weight limit, including the mattress.
Most styles can be built in King size. However, some designs are restricted because their added weight makes operation too heavy.
A king-size Murphy bed is not offered with:
This is why choosing a face style first is not enough. The full design must be checked for King compatibility.
Murphy bed mechanisms are counterbalanced for regular raising and lowering. Still, a larger mattress adds weight. Desks, TVs, and other furniture features add more. Spring mechanisms are used on most beds and all Stay-Level Desk versions. Piston mechanisms are used for certain other designs.
A King office design can include a 28-inch-deep Stay-Level Desk, bookcases, drawers, file storage, lighting, charging stations, and printer pullouts. These features change the finished size and weight. A Stay-Level Desk remains level as the bed moves, making it useful in a working room.
Measure the wall, ceiling, floor, doors, and windows before choosing features. Also check existing base molding and wall studs. A standard crown adds 2½ inches to each side and the front. A large crown adds 3½ inches.
Before placing an order, confirm:
The bed must attach to wall studs at three to four points along the header.
Every order receives a detailed drawing packet with dimensions, a scale rendering, and design features before production. A pre-order drawing is also available for $100, including one revision, with the fee credited toward the Work Order after ordering.
A king-size Murphy bed should match the room and the features you need. Review the wall width, ceiling height, open projection, mattress size, and added furniture before ordering. WWBeds Custom Furniture can create a custom design around your space and selected features.
Can every Murphy bed style be made in King size?
No. Horizontal, Inset Desk, Mirror, and Pivoting Bookcase designs are not offered in King size because added weight affects operation.
How large is a King Murphy bed?
A spring vertical King measures 90¼ inches high, 83 inches wide, and 16 inches deep, with an open projection of about 90 inches.
Can a King Murphy bed include a desk?
Yes. King configurations include Stay-Level and fold-down desk designs. Desk depth, drawers, charging stations, and other features can be customized.
Why are some King designs restricted?
The mattress and added furniture increase total weight. Certain designs become too heavy for practical operation, so they are not offered in King size.
