Modified Templeton Murphy bed 113-0526

This project was especially unique because we built four Murphy beds for one customer: a queen-size Murphy bed with a right-side bookcase, a queen-size Murphy bed with a left-side bookcase, a queen-size Murphy bed without bookcases, and a full-size Murphy bed without bookcases. Because the four beds shared the same overall design, we photographed the queen Murphy bed using one of the left bookcases and one of the right bookcases together. The result shows how this custom Murphy bed design can look with matching storage on both sides, even though the individual beds were originally configured differently.

Style 113-0526 features our Modified Templeton Murphy Bed face, giving the closed bed a clean, architectural Shaker-style appearance with an added distinctive horizontal mid-rail. The queen-size bed is constructed from Painted Maple and finished in a dramatic two-tone combination of Black Lacquer with Dark Walnut accents on Maple. Long 16-inch nickel bar pulls accent the Murphy bed face, while matching 6-inch nickel bar pulls are used throughout the bookcase cabinetry.

The coordinating bookcases provide a combination of open display space, concealed storage and functional bedside features. Each bookcase incorporates a 12-inch open section, three standard drawers, a pullout drink tray, a built-in black charging station and a glass display shelf with wood front trim. The Dark Walnut accent finish is carried onto selected bookcase surfaces, including the fixed shelf above the drink tray, the drink tray itself and the adjustable shelf behind the center doors.

Integrated lighting adds both function and a finished built-in appearance. The Murphy bed has inset LED lights with black frames, and the bookcases include matching LED lighting. Two touch controls provide convenient operation—one located at the headboard and another integrated into the bookcase area. The bed also includes a 3-inch headboard with a built-in black charging station, making it easy to keep phones and other devices powered while using the bed.

The original paired queen Murphy beds were designed as inverse versions of one another, allowing the bookcase to be positioned on either the left or right depending on the room layout. The overall unit is approximately 90-1/4 inches tall; the drawing shows a 67-inch-wide queen bed cabinet with a 27-inch bookcase section for an overall width of about 94 inches. The spring-version cabinet is approximately 16 inches deep, with the bookcase at approximately 13-7/8 inches deep, helping this custom wall bed conserve floor space when closed.

Style 113-0526 is a good example of how a custom Murphy bed with storage, charging, lighting and matching bookcases can be adapted to several rooms while maintaining a consistent furniture design. Whether configured as a queen Murphy bed with a left or right bookcase, a standalone queen wall bed, or a full-size Murphy bed without bookcases, the design combines sleeping space, built-in storage and custom cabinetry in one space-saving system.
