This murphy bed has bookcases that cover the front. The bookcases swing and then fold in two to allow the bed to open. There are 6 bookcase cabinets in this project. Four that cover the face and tow off to the side.
Most of our Murphy beds are what they call Panel Beds with a front face that comes down with the bed. However, this isn’t suitable for a bookshelf design because things could fall off. But in this bookshelf version, we’ve come up with a solution.
Basically, when you want to use the Murphy bed, you open it up. The bookshelf splits in the middle and folds onto itself while keeping the shelves facing forward. When it’s all set, you have the Murphy bed revealed and ready to use. It’s a clever combination of a bookshelf and a space-saving bed.
