One of our recent projects was a stunning Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Murphy Bed with a Stay-Level Desk, designed to maximize space without compromising style. This particular unit was shipped to Easton, MD, where it now serves as a perfect blend of elegance and functionality.

A Murphy Bed with Timeless Elegance

The face style of this bed takes inspiration from the iconic designs of Frank Lloyd Wright, known for his blend of organic architecture and geometric precision. This custom Murphy Bed was built in a warm Cherry stain on Oak wood, adding a rich and classic touch to the room while maintaining a timeless aesthetic.

Innovative Stay-Level Desk Design

The Stay-Level Desk is one of the standout features of this build. Unlike traditional fold-down desks, this design allows items to remain on the desk’s surface, even when the bed is lowered. Thanks to the precise counterbalancing of the Murphy Bed mechanism, even a full glass of water can stay put without spilling! This feature makes transitioning from workspace to sleep space seamless and effortless.

Additionally, this particular desk was customized with three pencil drawers, providing extra storage for office essentials.

Integrated Lighting for Ultimate Convenience

To complement the Stay-Level Desk, we installed LED Outset lights. These sleek, energy-efficient lights are perfect for both nighttime reading and daytime desk work. With a convenient touch dimmer, users can easily adjust the brightness to their preference, whether they need full illumination or a softer glow.

Custom Storage Solutions

Storage was a major focus in this design, and we incorporated two beautiful, functional bookcases on either side of the Murphy Bed:

• Left Bookcase (24” wide): This unit features adjustable wood shelves at the top, a mid-door section with a printer pullout, and a bottom section with a file drawer, a standard drawer, and a pull-out drink tray.

• Right Bookcase (18” wide): Designed as a corner bookcase with all open adjustable shelves, providing a versatile and spacious storage solution.

To accommodate the Stay-Level Desk and bookcase combination, we also used extra thick verticals, ensuring the desk mechanism operates smoothly without interfering with the surrounding structure.

Mattress and Sleeping Comfort

For optimal comfort, this Murphy Bed was designed to fit a standard Queen-size mattress (under 12” thick). While we do not recommend adjustable or memory foam mattresses, our customers often prefer an innerspring mattress for the best support and durability.

This customized unit was carefully crafted to fit the customer’s space perfectly:

• Murphy Bed: 90 1/4" H x 67" W x 16" D (Projection: 90”)

• Left Bookcase: 90 1/4" H x 24" W x 17 7/8" D

• Right Bookcase: 90 1/4" H x 18" W x 17 7/8" D
