Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the standard kit and the Deluxe Kit 2.0?

The Deluxe kit 2.0 starts with the standard kit but adds a new fold out leg.  This eliminates the block feet off the front of the bed.  It also adds a new adjustable weight mechanism.  This mechanism allow you to adjust the mechanical leverage at any time.  This allows for heaver/lighter mattresses or even adding heavier face design or desk on the front.  It is just $60 extra for these features.  We are in the process of swithing all our completely built murphy beds to the Deluxe 2.0 kit.  Adjustable Weight VideoNew Leg Video.

What comes with the mechanism and what size bed can I build?

The murphy bed mechanism includes the gas spring / piston-lift mechanism and custom hardware, complete illustrated step-by-step construction books and an instructional video link.

How much will it cost to build my murphy bed?

We strongly recommend using veneered plywood to build your bed cabinet and solid wood for the inner wood bed frame. On  the kit only, the wood and other materials you'll need to purchase are all available at your local home improvement store and will cost around $300 to $400 depending on the size bed you are building. The Pre-cut version the wood comes with the kit.

How long will it take to build my bed and what tools will I need?

For the kit only, it takes the average person about 20 hours to build a murphy bed using basic tools that include a skill or circular saw, jigsaw, drill with drill and driver bits, and a tape measure.  When you purchase the Pre-cut board we give you a huge head start.

What kind of mattress do I use with my murphy bed?

This system is designed to use a standard innerspring mattress of up to 12 inches thick without a box spring. The correct weight range for your mattress is called out in your construction book.

How does the free plan deal work? Fill out the form below and we will email you a PDF version of the plans. We are sure you'll want to by the hardware from us, we are willing to send out the plans for free.  Take you time and look them over to see if it is something you are comfortable with.  If not then you loose nothing.  If it is something you can think you can do order the mechanism and will send you out a complete package including a hard copy of the plans.

How much woodworking skills do I need? Not much for the alpine.  For the most part if you know how to work saws and drills and read a tape measure, you can build this.  There is a DVD to help you along the way and if you need further help, I can always be contacted.  I've built hundreds of these.  chris@wwbeds.com

Can I build any other styles besides the Alpine? Yes,  The instructions are for the Alpine, but the main difference in each style is  the face panel.  Some style just require adding some molding to that panel, some require that it be replaced with something different.  I can hand write some instruction modifications if you'd like to build other versions.  BONUS OFFER: As a bonus I am sending a supplement to build our Hudson Bay. (Make sure you ask for it when ordering)

What if I need help during the building process? My name is Chris and I am the building and designer of most of the beds you see.  If you have any questions contact me chris@wwbeds.com  or 501-753-9699.

What sizes does the kit build? You can build twin, full, or queen in both the vertical and horizontal directions.  I will need to know at the time of ordering what size and direction of bed you'd like.

After I buy the mechanism can I upgrade to the pre-cut? Yes, if you get to the point that you don't have the time to build it from scratch, you can still purchase pre-cut version without the mechanism.  You can even purchase one of our completed units and we'll give you a credit for the entire price of the mechanism including shipping.

Do you a sample video?  Yes, a 10 minuet segment of the video can be view at Murphy Video site.  If you'd like to watch the entire video before purchasing the entire kit, a full length DVD can be purchased.  The sale price will be deducted from the kit price when you decide on the order. (Click here for more information)

I can't get the video link to work?  The most common problem with viewing the video is your flash player isn't up-to-date. Don't worry, we send a DVD out with the kits.

There are so many piece to that pre-cut, how will I ever keep them straight? We individually lable each piece and hardware pack so that there are no confusion during the building process.
