| This is a bookcase that was completed in May 2009.
It’s design came from an entertainment center that I built a few years ago
called the
Pillar Entertainment Center. A
customer saw it and wanted a bookcase built in the same style. This one is
made form mainly maple and poplar with a little MDF.
It has a arch at the top with a raised panel effect on it. I built this
in one piece with a router raised panel system. The system uses 4 routers on
a special table to achieve this design. The detailed molding at the top is a
standard crown with an added custom profile molding added to the bottom. To
make the crown really flair out I brought out the post and the center.
The finish is a white undercoater with a antiquing glaze over that. I
don’t use a regular glaze. I found for that antique look, Golden Oak by
Minwax is real good to use as a glaze coat. The stain was applied after I
did a series of rub troughs on the corners and where most of the wear would
normally occur.
